1874 Northwich FC

1874 Northwich FC started life on 15th November 2012, when a meeting of members of the Northwich Victoria Supporters Trust voted to set up a new Club and walk away from Northwich Vics. The new Club was set up as a Community Benefit Society, serving the Northwich area and surrounding villages.

The primary community benefit was the provision of an open age football team, through the operation of a club run by the fans, for the fans. 1874 is wholly owned by its members, with each owner / member having one vote. 1874 Northwich FC has several teams, the senior (open age) team plays in the fifth tier of the non-league pyramid, in the Midland Football League.

One of our five objects as described in the Model Rules are to benefit the community by:

  • providing sporting facilities and opportunities regardless of age, income, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, religious or moral belief;

In pursuit of this objective, we have operated junior football teams, under 21s and walking football for men and women. This has been our aim for many years and forms part of our Business Plan. We are continually seeking to strengthen links between the parent club and the walking football section, such as hosting an exhibition match at our 10th Anniversary celebrations, inviting the walking footballers to be guests at a home match and continuing to share updates on walking football via our social media outlets.

Our involvement with walking football started in November 2015, when we donated two kits to the Moss Farm Walking Football Club. This relationship grew over the next few years, with 1874 Northwich providing insurance and FA affiliation and the competitive team being known as 1874 Northwich Walking Football Club. This permitted the team to play in cup competitions such as the Europa Cup in Portugal. Since that time, we have considered the walking football group to be part of the 1874 family and have promoted and publicised their successes and continued to support them as requested. As with any other community based group in our family, they have been self-sufficient, raised their own finances and managed their own operation, with the senior club on hand if needed.
