What an amazing day …..

30/04/2026

After much planning, the day of the Walking Football Challenge finally arrived and the first teams were down at Moss Farm ready for kick off at 7.00am. The weather was exceedingly kind, with blue skies and a breeze – perfect conditions for walking football.

Throughout the day, players and referees turned up on cue and handovers were seamless. Information was available about prostate cancer and the raffle tickets were selling well. The “Guess the total number of goals scored” competition meant that results were carefully recorded and there was lots of speculation as to the on-going total.

All in all it was a fantastic event. Alongside the many members of the 1874 men’s WF group, thank you to the 1874 women’s WF group & Northwich Walking Football Club for their participation & support (in total we had 70+ players). Great to see the differing groups come together for such a great cause.

A huge “Thank You” to everyone who has supported our event, especially to Cheshire FA, not only for letting us use the pitch and opening up at 6.45am, but also to all the staff who came down to support us.

We raised £792.93 on the day, through the raffle, guess the total goals and donations. As of 30th April – the total donations for Prostate Cancer UK are £9762.06, which is a fantastic result (it’s not too late to donate :)). Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated.

The pictures below try to capture the spirit of the day, good football played in a friendly spirit, with lots of laughs among friends, whilst supporting a worthwhile cause.

After the event, the remaining participants and supporters retired to Northwich Cricket Club for a well earned drink. The total number of goals was announced – 48 (7 having been scored int he last match by the women) – well done to John Coats, who was the sole person that got it right. The raffle was drawn with 16 prizes up for grabs, including a paddling pool and a goody bag from Bentley Motors (unfortunately without the car!!). This rounded off what had been a fantastic event.
