We are delighted to announce that the donations to Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK) in support of our Walking Football Challenge have reached nearly £4000 and we are still just under three weeks away from the event. A huge “Thank you” to everyone who has donated so far and to the Thor Group for their very generous donation to the cause.
As well as donating via the JustGiving page: 1874 Northwich Walking Football Challenge fundraiser for PROSTATE CANCER UK, we are also running a sweep stake on the number of goals scored during the 10 hours. The nearest guess (without going over the total number of goals) will win half the pot, (In the event of a tie, this 50% of the pot will be shared between the winners). The other 50% goes to PCUK. Entries cost £2 and tickets to record your guess can be obtained from Phil Burgess at matches, or by emailing Maggie Coats on society@1874northwich.com. The closing date for this competition will be 6.59am on Wednesday 29th April 2026.
On the day of the event, we will be holding a raffle. Prizes are building up and so far include:
- a Capelli Training top,
- an 1874 polo shirt,
- Prostate Cancer UK branded football shirts,
- a PCUK Teddy bear and
- a PCUK credit card holder.
Further prizes will be collected before the 29th. If you would like a raffle ticket, they cost £1 and can be obtained from Maggie Coats at 1874 Northwich 1st team games, 1874 Northwich walking football sessions or by emailing her at society@1874northwich.com. They will also be available at the event on 29th April.
A £1 donation can help us to support PCUK to fund their vital research and provide support services for men and their families. We hope that our event will make a difference to men’s lives. PCUK figures show that:
- £10 funds a vital call with one of the PCUK Specialist Nurses, offering free, confidential support to men and their loved ones.
- £20 provides 100 microscope slides to advance PCUK research into new prostate cancer treatments
- £30 enables a specialist to spend two crucial hours preparing samples for analysis, helping PCUK to understand how to stop prostate cancer from spreading
- £100 trains ten volunteers to provide essential 1:1 peer support to men living with prostate cancer
- £500 supports a researcher to travel to scientific conferences for a year, to share results and generate ideas for new ways to tackle prostate cancer
- £1000 gives a researcher two year’s access to state of the art microscopy equipment, enabling PCUK to identify and study individual cancer cells.
Every pound we raise helps create a future where no man dies of prostate cancer.
